Payment Arrangements

If you have a past due balance and are having trouble paying your energy bill each month, a payment arrangement can help. A payment arrangement helps you paydown past due debt while making monthly payments on current energy usage.  Under Minnesota law, customers are entitled to a payment arrangement for the payment debts that considers a customer’s financial or extenuating circumstances of the household.  A payment arrangement includes two parts, the monthly installment payment of your past due debt plus your monthly energy usage.

If you have received a disconnection notice, please contact customer service at 877-267-4764 to setup a payment arrangement to not be disconnected.

You can set up a payment arrangement by using the following methods:

  • Call Great Plains’ toll-free customer service phone number 877-267-4764:
    • To speak with a Customer Service Representative. This is the best option if you have a larger past due balance or received a disconnection notice as it gives you the opportunity to set up a payment arrangement that best fits your unique financial situation, or
    • Follow the voice prompts of the Automatic Phone System by selecting option number two, “request a payment arrangement” and follow the options.
  • Online Account Services:
    • Selecting ‘Request Payment Plan Option’ on Home Page.
    • Chat with a Customer Service Representative.

If you are unable to reach a mutual payment arrangement with a customer service representative, you may appeal the decision with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission’s Consumer Affairs Office.  The Consumer Affairs Office can be contacted at 651-296-0406 or 800-657-3782, or by email at [email protected].
